2013 / Wooden rulers / 15x100cm

Standardisation is based on international rules of normalisation. These rules set the parameters for the acceptable deviation in size of a given manufactured object, guaranteeing its validity and functionality. In this piece, I present two seemingly identical wooden rulers, yet they have a very subtle difference in form, which greatly affects their market value. When a supposedly standardised object strays from the norm, it automatically becomes a one-off piece with unique characteristics, yet it no longer fulfils the specific function for which it was created.
