Aleph

Print and MDF block on Hahnemühle paper / 75 × 75 cm each

The centre of the Antarctic entails a paradox. It is just like the one described by Borges, i.e. that bright, shining point, called the Aleph, that encompasses the whole of existence. In this piece I have created a woodblock puzzle, showing the time zone divisions in the Antarctic, along with its print. They each show a way of ordering time and space, and they highlight a paradox that arises from the human urge to compartmentalise. It turns out that, right there at the centre of the Antarctic, where all the time zones of all countries converge, you can technically be everywhere at the same time.
