One watershed moment in the history of humanity was the acceptance of Copernicus’ theory of heliocentrism: humans had to acknowledge that the universe did not revolve around them. In this piece, that cosmological and epistemological revolution is presented alongside the refinement of it by Thomas Digges, who posited that there are an infinite number of stars at variable distances. His construction initially seemed to be purely visual, geometric and descriptive, but it ultimately changed how we see the universe, setting a brand-new standard for scientific rationality.
