2014 / Mixed technique / Silicone moulds on glass / 98x48cm

Any representation of land without any place names or scales does not say much about size — it takes us into the realm of guesswork. In this piece, there are two apparently similar surfaces, in mould-cast silicone, of the same size. The first mould is based on the relief map of a region spanning 413 hectares, while the second is cast directly from a small plot of land, less than half a square metre, contained within that larger territory. These are two representations, at different scales, of one and the same terrain, and they invite us to reflect on the concept of scale.
