Satellite Constellation

2014 / Monotype and embossing on board / 130 × 220 cm

Today, the satellites, antennae and triangulation networks that make up the GPS system have replaced the observation of stars and constellations, i.e. the more traditional orienteering method used on countless seafaring expeditions. In this piece, the old celestial navigation systems are compared with the modern global positioning systems. The work features bright, starry skies, made with monotype and glitter, and finished with embossed lines that show the satellite-based triangulation network. As such, it seems to outline a new technological constellation.
