The first modern atlas was a systematic collection of maps, in a uniform size and style, compiled by Abraham Ortelius in 1570. He called it Theatrum Orbis Terrarum (the theatre of the world). For this piece, I created a globe by winding all the pages of a contemporary atlas into a ball. The idea was to take the atlas, which tries to reduce the complexity of our planet into a series of flat, ruled diagrams, and allude to its pretend or exaggerated form of representation, one that does not provide us with a true image of the world.
