V2

2015 / Transfer on steel / Series of 12 illustrations / 25x17cm (each)

The V-2 rockets were long-range missiles developed and deployed by the Nazis in the Second World War, and they were the forerunners of space rockets. Their creator, Wernher von Braun, after being captured by the Allied forces, went on to lead America’s efforts in the Space Race. This piece features a series of illustrations from the missile’s 1944 launch manual. These sexist drawings were instructions, for the soldiers, on how to handle the missile correctly, compared with supposedly everyday contexts.
