Marshall Plan

2015/ Photograph with two perspectives / 48x24x5cm

The clock is a symbol of progress, because the efficient industries use it to monitor, precisely, the time spent on each step of the manufacturing process. This photograph, with two perspectives, features two stills from the Spanish comedy Welcome Mr. Marshall!. In this film, a local man has to cover up the fact that his village’s clock tower has no working mechanism, so he is forced to move the clock hands himself when the American motorcade turns up. This is an ironic reflection on the relativity of the passage of time, which was so different in 1950s rural Spain compared to America’s booming capitalist society.
